The beautiful thing is that when you fall, you can get out. There is a way that we can allow ourselves to escape from the prison that we might feel ourselves trapped in. However, getting out all depends on how we view God and how we view our situation. Yesterday we talked about who to trust in: people and their opinions or God? When we trust in the opinions of people
There are various points in Job’s journey where he explicitly states he will place his trust in Job, however, there is one in particular that I want to look at for today: Job 13:15. Everyone knows this scripture well right? All of these bad things have happened to Job and proving himself to be a servant for God he says, “though he slay me, yet will I trust in him.” That’s the part we all know, but let’s look at the scripture in full:
“Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him”
The last part of this verse is something that is neglected, but it very important in our reading. This is why I love Job. He is so realistic, and he allows us to see ourselves in the situation. Job says what we say a lot of the time. We claim that we will trust in God, however, we still willingly choose to do what we want. This happens all the time. Even when things go wrong, we say that we trust in God, yet we continue to follow with our own plans and agenda until the situation is magically solved. We want to trust God but at the same time defend why our way is right and why it will continue to be right.
We can’t get out if we are not fully trusting God to do what he said he was going to do. God says he will never let us down, yet we don’t trust him to simply be God and do what he says he will do. We must be willing to abandon our own ways. This goes back to becoming a servant. As a servant Job was willing to trust God, but he still had issues with giving himself and everything he has completely to God.
The only way we can do this is by allowing ourselves to accept where we are and trust God. While God is there and he will get us out of our failed state, we also must do the work while we are trusting. We must use the tools God has given us. Allowing God to be God is letting him do the work not only for us, but also doing work within us by changing our hearts.
