So the whole point of this series is about strength and finding strength in God. But one of the main questions is how? How do we get the most from God that we can then pour into the world? I think one of the main ways we can do this is simply by listening.
“Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives generously to all without finding fault and it will be given unto him” James 1:5 (NIV)
Let’s be honest, listening to God is not as easy as it sounds. Sometimes when we have our own plans about how we would like our life to go, we tend to ignore God for our ow agenda. I know that especially during this season of my life, I thought I had it all figured out. I knew what I wanted to do, but there was always something holding me back from actually following through. For a while, I thought it was fear. After a while, I simply thought of going to God again and simply listening. When I listened, I heard something that I did not want to hear: no. God told me, no and I was absolutely furious.
I couldn’t understand and sometimes when I think about the situation, I still don’t understand. However, at the end of the day listening to God is what’s more important. Even when I don’t understand, I need to go to God. He tells us that if we lack any wisdom that we should come to him. God is a giver. He will give us anything we need as long as we come to him and ask. He will also give us anything as long as it is according to his will and timing for our lives. In order for us to gain wisdom and strength, we must ask God and admit to him that we don’t have all the answers as we believe we do.
“Pray that the Lord your God may tell us the way we should walk and the thing we should do” Jeremiah 42:3 (NIV)
Another reason that we should listen is that half of the time (or let’s be honest 100% of the time) we don’t know which way we should really be going. Building our strength in God is allowing him to tell us what to do. This goes back to Week 1 and leaving the self-reliant phase. We must allow ourselves to listen to God and listen to his direction goes above our own. When we listen to what God tells us it may be hard at first, but I know that amazing things happen. God doesn’t lead us into anything that will not make us stronger in our faith. God knows best as much as we don’t want to admit it at times. He literally created the Earth and yet we still have a complicated time believing that he knows best.
"Seek his will in all you do and he will show you which path to take" Proverbs 3:6 (NLT)
Our strength comes from seeking God in every way possible. God does know best and always has our best interest in heart. He is always going to show us the way we need to go, we just need to allow ourselves to submit to God and gain our strength from him. We are the most important part of the process when it comes to gaining our strength.
